Why Did John Endicott Find Massachusetts?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

John Endicott was an American colonial administrator of English origin. He was the founder of the Massachusetts Bay colony, a New England state and was also the governor of this place between 1628 and 1664. He was a Puritan and took great pleasure in persecuting the Quakers. He did this with a great deal of zeal and enthusiasm. He led the first group of Puritan colonists to Massachusetts in 1628.

It is said that John Endicott and his followers came to this place for business and trade but the original reason is that Endicott needed a place where he can propagate his religious views and spread its practices without the fear of prosecution. Thus they were seeking a free place or environment to promulgate Endicott's dissentient religious views. Thus he and his followers spread their views in the name of civilizing the native tribals.
