Paxil is a powerful drug, and is addictive , be careful,, maybe the Dr. thinks it will help you to become stress free over your IBS. however i would take a less powerful anti depressant if it were me.

Anti-depressants do not have an addictive quality, though some cause side effects, and you must be weaned off of them slowly. I've never heard of using anti-depressants for IBS, but Paxil may have an anti-anxiety component that your Dr. feels may be helpful for your condition. Good luck, and I hope it works for you.
