Several films have the dubious honour of having exorbitant production costs, although it is difficult to gauge whether or not the film made any profit, due to the ongoing potential of DVD sales. Prominent failures include films that bankrupted their studios, including Heaven's Gate (United Artists), Cutthroat Island (Carolco Pictures) and Final Fantasy (Square Pictures). Other failures, such as Town and Country, is reportedly the biggest flop of all time, having only made back 8 % of its original $85 million cost. However, at a cost of $175 million to produce, and only $88, 246, 220 and $133, 032, 837 in domestic gross , Waterworld and Troy cost the most without making a profit, although it is likely that these films will eventually recoup their budget. A highly expensive production often takes a long time to earn back its costs, especially if it goes over its original projected budget, as did Waterworld, or suffers from production delays, a problem that Town and Country experienced.
