Charles Eames was an American designer who invented the creative variety of chairs. Initially, these chairs were made out of plywood that was moulded, and the seat and backrest were arranged in such a way that they clung to the contours of the human body perfectly. These chairs are trademarked under the brand name of Eames chairs.
Charles Eames was born born in the year 1907, and died in 1978 at the age of seventy – one. He established his architecture practice in the year 1930 and later went to the Cranbrook Academy at Broomfield Hills, Michigan for further studies where he was accompanied by Eliel Saarinen. Afterwards he taught at Cranbrook, and was made chief of the department of design.
He married one of his co-workers at Cranbook, Ray Kaiser Eames and together they started a family in south California. The Eames couple invented few of the most advanced designs in the area of interiors, toys and other consumer durables loike furniture. These were mainly mass produced. The most popular of the chairs is the aforementioned Eames chair.
