There are some fine tunes and songs written with America in the title (which is what I will address here).
My first is America from West Side Story, it is both hopeful and naive and talks of the problems and opportunities of being a foreigner in America. It's tempo is upbeat but has a sense of danger about it. I want to live in Am-er-ica AI AI!
America is not the World is an amazing Morrissey song writing about how he feels America has become big headed and fat and forgotten that it is not the world... as the title suggests. It is a love song to America more than anything.
America by Razorlight is difficult to figure, but has something to do with watching America, feeling very American, it's a good song none the less.
I'm not interested in devoting time here to patriotic songs, that says more about the writer than the nation.

Like Epictetus, I'll skip over the obvious patriotic songs (though for the record, "America the Beautiful" has been recorded by Ray Charles in Keb' Mo' in ways that are effective in different ways.
"America" by Simon and Garfunkel is the first song that comes to mind. (Perhaps because it mentions the New Jersey Turnpike??? )
Randy Newman tends to be cynical and ironic. I like his newest song, "A Few Words In Defense of Our Country."
"The Last Resort" by the Eagles is rather specifically about California, but it's implicitly about America as a whole.
As with the NYC question, I know I'll think of another dozen or so songs for this question right after I submit the answer!
