Can You Help Me With Writing Dialogue For A Script?

Answer Question

The simple answer is no, not within this short space of writing here.

Writing dialogue requires the writer to get 'an ear' as they say for dialogue, this means listening to the way people speak and then being able translate that into dialogue for the stage.

On many occasions I've discussed with friends and colleagues (usually method actors) why dialogue and conversation are not the same thing. Its quite simple, dialogue is a contrived thing, designed by someone to advance the story of the hero who is on his or her quest to get something that they desire.

Writing dialogue requires you to go and listen and then go and listen to plays spoken and then read plays and then you will see how it works.  It's not the same on television.

One trick I will share however, is to keep the flow going, and to leave out the information you think you have to tell the audience.

My favourite worst piece of writing I ever saw was this:

MUM:  Hello Jenny, my daughter, what's up now with that older boyfriend of yours Dave! Has he broken up with you again?

    Catch my drift?
