Where Is Syria?
Syria is a Middle Eastern Country located to the north of Jordan, west of Iraq, south of Turkey, east of Lebanon and the north east of Israel. The country has a population of approximately nineteen million inhabiting an area of around a hundred and eighty five thousand square kilometers. The country is ruled by the Ba'ath party, similar to the Iraqi one, since 1963. The current President is Bashar al-Assad. The country is ruled by a community known as the Alawites. It is a secretive Muslim sect with very close links to Shi'a Islam. A majority of the population is however Sunni.
Syria is officially still at war with Israel and continues to support the Hezbollah in Lebanon. It has very close ties to Iran as well.
