What Are Water Lilies?

    Water lilies are basically aquatic plants. The plants are also known as Nymphaeaceae and Nelumbonaceae, also called lotus.

    Nymphaeaceae is basically a botanical name for a plant that belongs to the family of flowering plants. It is also known as water Lilly family. It is the national flower of Bangladesh and is also known as the birth flower of July. These plants are generally rooted in the soil of the water and the leaves and flowers generally float on the surface. Water lilies are generally divided into two different categories, namely, hardy and tropical.  

    The Nelumbo is basically a genus, which is known by us as lotus. They are the only genus that belongs to the family of Nelumbonaceae. This word is derived from the Sinhalese word Nelum.
