The jury is out on ground moles. There are some who welcome them to their gardens because they churn the soil and eat insects. There are others who will give their right hand to get rid of ground moles because of the damage that they cause to their plants.

The least feasible method of eliminating garden moles is to kill them. The carcass of a garden mole will be an open invitation of even more harmful insects, pests and bacteria. But there are a lot of people who lay poisoned bait all over their gardens. Garden moles can be smoked out if smoke bombs are thrown into their burrows. A castle-moat defense is very effective against garden moles. A water filled trench around the garden will prevent the moles from entering in the first place. There are devices that generate sound waves, these can be passed through the ground to irritate the moles and drive them away.
