The play King John better known as "The Life and Death of King John" is one of the to stop the Romans send him his mother, wife and child to convince him to relent. The play begins with foreign interference in the form of the French King Phillip asking or demanding the King to abdicate and hand the throne to the Duke of Brittany. The entire play goes on to show the various political machinations ands schemes that are played out with rapidly playing alliances, betrayals and the interference of Rome. The play ends with the death of King John after a monk apparently poisons him.
One of the criticisms of the play is that the Magna Carta which is now considered one of the greatest achievements of the Reign of King John. In those days it was seen as a step towards weakening the institution of Monarchy.
