The advice I have given my children and grandchildren, as both parent - employee - and a manager, is simple.
Always arrive at work on time; show up every day; take pride in your work, giving 110%; and keep complaints to yourself - save complaining for your family or friend sounding boards. If after time this is working as fast as you would like, begin to mimic your boss in subtle ways, through body language, clothing color, and other small things that you notice about your boss. Be first to acknowledge their birthday, and by all means organize a small party with cake - it will require 10 or 15 minutes out of the day but the boss must acknowledge the effort with some amount of gratitude.
Set a time frame to accomplish your goal, but give yourself at least six months to see a marked improvement. If all of your efforts are in vain, and it was me, I would look for another employer that would appreciate my dedication and efforts. But, before you jump ship, in your preparations learn all that you can and involve yourself deeply in projects that will make you more marketable.
