In many cases, jobs that require employees to relocate will provide funds to help cover all, or at least part of the cost of moving, travel and settling in the new city, or country. This is especially the case with many large multinational firms, foreign service jobs and sometimes even teaching positions at American international schools throughout the world. If you are considering accepting a job offer that will require you to relocate, you should always ask your potential new employer if their company offers any assistance in this regard. If they do, the specifics should be included in your contract.

If you are considering a job where the company does not offer any support in order to help defray the costs of relocating to a new country, you should see if you can at least deduct some of these as expenses when you file your tax return.

You should carefully consider both the positives and negatives of a job that requires you to relocate to another country. The best way to make an informed decision is to do a little research in order to find out how much your travel costs will be if you decide to fly back home at least once a year and you must also decide whether it is worth it to rent a container in order to ship your belongings to your new place. This can be very expensive, and you may find that it is best to sell most of your things before you move. Additionally, be sure to check how much average rents are in your intended city, or country and be certain that your proposed salary is appropriate in relation to the anticipated costs of living in your host country.
