What Is The Crime Rate In Mexico?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

2002 data (see source), per 100,000 people:

    Murder: 13.04
    Aggravated Assault: 186.68
    Rape 14.26
    Auto theft: 139.86
    Robbery: 146.57
    Fraud: 61.47

Compared to (for instance) the USA in 2002, Mexico had much less theft, especially car-theft.  Murder was almost 3 times more common in Mexico, though, while rape was half as common (or else, even more under-reported than the USA, which is quite possible).

Compared to England and Wales, mid 2005 data:
Violent offences, including murder and aggravated assault: 520
    Rape 30
    Auto theft: 950
    Robbery: 40
    Fraud: 110

So compared to Mexicans, English+Welsh are (seemingly) much more likely to be victims of fraud or violent assault.

Of course, it's different for people who live in a place, compared to folk just visiting.  Tourists are more likely to be victims of all forms of theft, and residents are more likely to be  victims of violent crime.
