Rh factor is the protein substance which is present in the red blood cells. It is capable of inducing intense antigenic reactions. Rh factor is also known as rhesus and it was discovered in 1940 by K. Landsteiner and A. S. Wiener. They observed that when an injection of blood from a rhesus monkey was given to the rabbits, then it caused an antigenic reaction in the serum of rabbit blood.
