The British Airways Waterside centre is in Harmondsworth, England. It is the Headquarters of British Airways. British Airways is the biggest international scheduled airline in the UK. After Air France-KLM and Luftansa it is the third biggest airline in Europe. With regards to flights across the Atlantic it is the largest operator in Europe. It flies to 550 destinations all over the world.

The birth of this airline can be traced to the boost in civil aviation at the end of the First World War. In 1939 Imperial Airways and British Airways were nationalized and the British Overseas Airways Corporation was formed. Flights going to destinations in Europe were undertaken buy a separate airline British European Airways. British Airways was privatised in 1981. It has faced considerable competition from Richard Branson's Virgin Atlantic.  British Airways inaugurated the first supersonic passenger service at the same time as France in 1976.
