The pigeons commonly found in cities and towns around the world are the feral pigeons. These pigeons nest in places like the ledges or roofs of buildings and underneath bridges which are generally inaccessible and sheltered as pigeons have many natural predators like cats on the ground and birds like falcons in the sky.

Pigeons generally lay two eggs at a time from which emerge squabs or baby pigeons. The squabs are initially covered by yellowish down and the familiar blue gray feathers start developing later on after two weeks or so have elapsed during which the squabs are nourished on crop milk secreted by both the parents.

The squabs grow in about 2 months after which they are ready to leave the nest. Baby pigeons leave the nest only after their wings have developed enough to fly properly. Most juvenile pigeons appear similar to adult pigeons in size and color hence one can seldom make them out.
