In general, international travellers require no specific immunisations before visiting South Africa. There is a legal requirement for any traveller over the age of one entering South Africa from a country infected with Yellow Fever to have a Yellow Fever immunisation certificate. Malaria is prevalent in some parts of the country, particularly in the north, but visitors to Cape Town need not be unduly concerned about it. If travelling to an area where malaria is endemic, travellers should take the customary precautions such as wearing long-sleeved shirts, taking malaria tablets, using malaria nets and insect repellent. It is considered inadvisable to drink water from lakes or rivers in the country.
