What Do Crickets Eat?

Crickets are omnivorous eating machines. They are the least fussy as far as their diet is concerned, and are known to eat just about anything. They usually prefer organic materials such as the decayed parts of plants and dried grass, but they are not averse to eating fruits such as apples, bananas and grapes, vegetables such as tomatoes, potatoes, lettuce and cabbage, seedling plants, fungi and even meat. Crickets need large quantities of food and water to sustain themselves, and in the absence of a good diet, they feed on each other and on the remains of other dead insects. Other varieties of food that crickets like to eat include tropical fish, rolled oats, cereals such as corn flakes, bread, digestive biscuits, scraps of chicken, alfalfa supplements, calcium supplements, scraps of raw vegetables and fresh fruits. It is not uncommon for crickets to eat leather, wool, silk, old cloth, paper and debris.
