Answer Question

The largest Christian Church in the world is a topic which is hotly debated!  The two who vie for the title are St Peters Basilica in the Vatican (Italy) and the Basilica of our Lady of Peace in Yanoussoukro in the Ivory Coast.

St Peters Basilica is indeed huge.  It can seat 60,000 people and covers an area which is 5.7 acres or 23,00 m2.  It is one of the holiest places in the Roman Catholic faith, since it is thought to be the burial place for St Peter who was one of Jesus' disciples.  However, it is not always set out as a Church i.e. the seating for 60,000 may not always be available.

The largest other Church, the Lady of our Peace can seat 18,000 people and was completed in 1989.  It was constructed by the President Felix Houphouet-Boigny and is located within his home town of Yamoussoukro.  He even moved the capital of the Ivory Coast to this location.
