Truro is located approximately 9 miles from the sea and is surrounded by some areas of outstanding natural beauty. The cathedral was built by John Loughborough Pearson at the end of the 19th century and completed in 1910. It was marked as a memorial to Queen Victoria who died in 1901.
Although still the only city in Cornwall it still retains a feel of a market town from centuries before, holding its weekly open market day every Wednesday. It has however an abundance of shops and major retailers as well as the Royal Cornwall Museum which depicts the history of Cornwall.
There are many events held throughout the whole year and the city carnival is held over a weekend every September. The run up to Christmas also sees the Winter Carnival which includes a paper lantern procession through the streets. There are many parks and open spaces including the attractive Victoria gardens.
