The Pancreas is an organ of the body located in the posterior of the stomach in humans. The duodenum is closely related to the Pancreas. The Pancreas is an elongated organ and lie within the abdomen in the retroperitoneum. The pancreas form part of the endocrine and digestive system. They perform two vital functions one of producing digestive enzymes in the form of pancreatic juice and another of producing hormones such as insulin. The insulin that the pancreas produces helps the body in using sugar for energy. The pancreas is roughly the size of the human hand. In appearance the Pancreas are greyish pink in colour. A major portion of the Pancreas is made of tissue made entirely of endocrine cells. The arrangement of these is known as the islets of langerhans.
