Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

One of the most popular among several Woody Allen films, The Sleeper was made by the inimitable actor director in 1973; the film stars along with Allen, Diane Keaton and John Beck. The film displayed Allen's innovativeness in that the film dealt with science fiction and was a comedy two themes that were not traditionally associated with each other.

The plot of the film is based on events that take place in the United States 200 years in the future when it is ruled by a dictator; Allen who plays Miles Monroe a typical guy next door type character who is frozen by scientists in the year 1973 and who is reactivated 200 years later to help in dealing with the dictator and re-establishing a democratic society.

Monroe (Allen) proves to be of invaluable help to the revolutionaries as all ideas and knowledge that could spark a rebellion have been banned from proliferating. Allen satirizes several well known political personalities of the 20th century like Stalin and former US President Richard Nixon.
