Answer Question

The first pair of shoes were made by ancient man to protect his feet from the extremely cold climate. He added material to the tops of the crude types of sandals which were worn by people in warmer climates. The crude types of sandals which were worn by people in warmer climates were, in fact, made out of a mat which was made of woven grass, the hide of an animal or a slab of wood and thongs which were made of the hides of animals. These were worn to protect the wearers' feet from the sharp rocks.

The earliest instance of modern-day shoes (the ones we known today) were during the Middle Ages and approximately the same time as the commencement of the Crusades. However, sandals were worn by wealthy people in Egypt as long as about five thousand years ago, and leather boots were invented by the ancient Greeks. The modern shoe-making industry was started in the United States of America by Thomas Beard in the year 1629.
