The greek myth that explains spring is this:
The goddess of the harvest Demeter had a daughter Persephone who is goddess of insects, flowers, etc. The two were very close. One day the greek god Hades lord of the underworld "captured" Persephone "with Zeus's permission". Zeus, being king of the gods and lord of the sky had power over marriage within the olympians. When Demeter found out that Zeus and Hades had done this she was outraged. The world was in a plague of draught, because Demeter was so upset. This became winter. Zeus saw that people were dying because of Demeter's sadness and was deciding on what to do about it. Meanwhile in the underworld Persephone was not really captured. She was given the option of going and she took it, but Demeter did not know this. Zeus eventually told Hades that Persephone had to leave the underworld and end her mother's sorrow. Before leaving the underworld though Persephone ate 6 pomegranate seeds, knowing that the number of seeds she ate would be the number of her months in the underworld per year. So Persephone spends the 6 months of spring and summer on Mount Olympus and the 6 months of fall and winter with her husband Hades, ruling the underworlds.
