What Is The Malmedy Massacre?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Malmedy Massacre is the term which is used to refer to a war crime that took place on December 17, 1944. It was committed by Kampfgruppe Peiper, a part of the German ad-hoc fighting unit, the First SS Panzer Division, during the Battle of the Bulge.

The captors executed several unnamed prisoners of war from the United States of America. O'Reilly stated (incorrectly) that the Americans perpetrated the heinous act. On the contrary, the American prisoners of war were the victims of the Malmedy Massacre.

One of Bill O'Reilly's two major faux pas was his incorrect descriptions of issues such as the Malmedy Massacre and the lie that Inside Edition had won two Peabody Awards (for radio and broadcasting). Al Franken correctly stated that the show had won only one Polk award for journalism.
