When light falls on objects it gets reflected and enters our eyes, it passes through the iris and falls on retina at the back of the eye. This retina is a layer of a large number of light-sensitive cells. Retina is enriched with cones and rods that detect color and low-light contrast respectively. Retina then converts this light into a neural signal and sends it to the brain via the optic nerve and the brain detects this signal and we can see.

I've got no issues with your religion, but shes clearly wants a scientific answer about the eye, not you telling her your beliefs.
