The meaning of the term 'Sierra Nevada' can be illustrated only by fragmenting the term into two words; Sierra and Nevada. Sierra is a word that is of Spanish origin and the meaning that can be figured out with the word is that of a mountain range. When somebody is using the word 'Nevada' he is again taking it from the Spanish language and the meaning of the term is snow-capped. So the combined meaning of the term is the snow-capped mountain range.

The word is attributed to a mountain range that is located in the US state of California and there is another mountain range that is known to the world with the same name and can be located in the southern part of the country of Spain and can be found along the Mediterranean coast.
