Why Do People Have Faith?

I'm just wondering what is the meaning of faith. To me, it's simply a strong and blind belief in something, but why do people have the need to have this belief? Aren't we capable of living only with the knowledge that we get from science and reason. Do we really need this? Please account for your answer.

The meaning of faith is what you decipher it to be, whether you go to church, or not, no matter what your religion is, there is something in that religion that tells you that there is something out there that has created all of what we know and see.
We all want to know what/who it is that made us and the earth, as well as the universe. So, when we pass away, we all would like to believe that there has to be more than just this one life that we have.
Many people believe in 'the light at the end of the tunnel', and many have claimed to have seen it. So, how can so many people claim to have seen the same thing, at different times in their lives, and describe the same thing. So we all might think in one way or another, that there is something out there that is truly devine, and we do have something to look forward to at the end of our life here on earth. The faith that it is there. Just my humble opinion. Hope this helps, God bless.

Thanks for your answer, really helped. But do you think that the things we learn by faith may be considered as knowledge? For example, people that have faith in God KNOW that he exists. Is that knowledge valid? Please account for your answer.

No one can say that it is knowledge yet, because no one person can say that they saw God, the miracles that we see, cause us to have the faith that there is a God, and in that we know that there might be a God up there looking out for us.

FAITH is upper level thinking or consciousness. It's a type of acquired assurance that doesn't require tons of evidence.  I personally believe it's exclusive to human beings.  If by account you mean a particulat reference ---a basic New Testament Biblical quote would define Faith as "..the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
