Cray Inc. is based in Seattle in Washington. It is a company that manufactures Supercomputers. Cray Inc is the direct successor of Cray Research, Inc. The company was founded in the year 1972. It was founded by a computer designer called Seymour Cray. The first computer that was released in the year 1976 was called Cray 1 vector computer. This was the design that actually put 'Cray' on the map. In the year 1989 Seymour Cray also launched Cray Computer Corporation (CCC). However the company went bankrupt in the year 1995. In the year 1996 Cray Research was purchased by SGI.
In the year 2000 Cray Inc was formed when it was taken over by Tera Computer Company, they purchased the Cray Inc from SGI.
