Created by Matt Groening for the Fox Network, The Simpsons is one of the most successful and critically acclaimed television shows ever produced. It is the longest-running American sitcom, and the longest-running American animated program to date.
The show debuted on December 17 1989, and has aired 381 episodes in eighteen seasons. On March 20 2006, the show was renewed for its 19th season, and will air in 2007-2008.
The finale of the eighteenth season will be the 400th episode, and the 20th anniversary of The Simpsons franchise will be celebrated in 2007.
Fans of the show have stated that they feel it has declined in quality, but despite this, it has still remained a highly-rated show. A feature length movie is in production, and will be released on July 27 2007.
Many episodes feature celebrities, either contributing their voices or by making appearances in the shows.
