Can Pregnant Women Have The Flu Jab?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

According to professionals it is completely safe for pregnant women to have the flu jab but they should try to have the thiomersal-free vaccine whenever possible. Basically that just means that the vaccine is mercury free but even if you can only have the thiomersal vaccine, it is still worth having. The benefits of having the injection are definitely better than the negative aspects which could come with it so it is always worth having.
It is particular worth having the flu jab if you have a medical problem. This is because when you are pregnant you are more at risk of developing various conditions. Combine that with the fact that you have an existing medical condition and you will realise that any other infection could be severely harmful to both you and the baby. So, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is completely safe to have the flu jab and it is in fact recommended.
