How Do Parish Councils Work?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

In England parish councils were created as a section of the feudal system during the 11th century. Parish councils are run by a set of elected people who supervise the local duties of a town or a village.

The growth of Local Area Management has in a way led to the expansion of parish councils inside urban and rural neighbourhoods. Parish councils are often mixed up with Parochial Church Councils, who work for the well being of religious organizations. Whereas in Scotland; parishes are said to be subdivisions of clerical counties. On the basis of the Local Government Act of 1973, the community councils were created all across Scotland. A number of community councils have their respective Coat of Arms, but do not have legislative powers.
