The city of Atlantic City is located in Atlantic County, in the eastern coastal state New Jersey, United States of America. Located on Absecon Island, off the coast of the Atlantic ocean, it is predominantly a resort community. Until 1850 black snakes and mosquitos dominated the area. Then two men, Mr. Jonathan Pitney and Mr. Richard Osborne,
came up with a brilliant marketing plan. Claiming that the area, with the salt water and sea breezes, was a convalescent cure-all. They claimed that the area would help to cure all ailments including insanity. Investors jumped at the opportunity and soon railroads were laid and Atlantic City was born. The first visitors arrived on July 1st 1854. Atlantic City soon became famous for its' boardwalk, today sometimes seen in movies, which included; and still includes, vendors, fortune tellers and amusement parks. In 1976 a gambling law was approved and Atlantic City became the gambling capital along the east coast of America.
