Do I Have To Give My Landlord A Key To My Door Under California Renters Rights?

I am not comfortable giving my landlord a key to my door because of the company she keeps. This person is constantly at her house. He has stolen from her countless times, including her car, is a known thief in our town. They are right down the hall from me, and he roams around her house even when she is sleeping. She has told me of all the things he has stolen from her, and I am not about to have my door key anywhere in her house. Please let me know.

Legally you DO, but why would you if they haven't asked for it.

She has asked for a key. I have lived here about 3 years now, have never been late with my rent money ( on several occasions I have given it to her early when she was low on cash), and we have never had any problems. I told her if she needs to get in to break a window and I will gladly pay for it, but I won't have a key to my door in her house. I will move first. I have rented for about 35 years in various places, and have not once been asked for my door key by my landlord.
