The DVD-R I Record On Cannot Be Seen On DVD Players In Fl. And AZ And Mi Why?

I buy DVD-R in Maine and duplicate a VHS tape on them. The viewers in Florida, Michigan and Arizona can only watch them on their computers, not their DVD players. What can I do to make them viewable?

I think--and I'm going on memory here--that certain DVD players--especially older models and low end models can only read certain types of disks, either DVD+R or DVD-R.  As long as the DVD has been finalized, it should be able to be read by a majority of DVD players on the market today.  I don't know if it makes any difference if the DVD has been burned via computer or via a DVD recorder.
