In the USA the average dress size for a woman has been considered to be an 8, (which is the equivalent of a UK size 10), which means a bust of 35 inches, a waist of 27 inches, and 37.5 inch hips.

However nowadays people in general seem to be getting bigger and wider, and it is now thought that the average dress size is nearer to measurements of bust 41 inches, waist 34 inches, and hips of 43 inches. These measurements correspond to a size 12, (UK size 14).

It is thought that for some years dress manufacturers have been engaged in what is known as "vanity sizing", which means actually making clothes bigger than their stated size.

Despite these averages, there is a great deal of variation amongst American women in sizes, with some women being smaller than average, and some women larger. These differences can also be dependant upon age, and ethnic origin.

You know, some of you people are just plain stupid. Let's give the youth of today eating disorders by telling them they're fat because they're not a size for.  I've been told by my doctor that if I was a size four I'd be too skinny.  It would be unhealthy.  Being too small is as bad as being too fat.  It's not about being fat or skinny.  It's about being healthy.  Ms. Size 0.  You're too small.  Eat something for heaven's sake!

Oh my god!
She doesnt need to put down a burger because I'm 14 and I'm a size 12, that isn't much less now is it?!
People should stop worrying about what size they are because if you have a nice personality it shouldn't matter what size you are.

Size 14 is 'normal'?
Some of us can't help it if we're a little less than 'normal'. Think about this one: A waistband of over 31 inches increases the risk of heart disease. With over 34 inches to have a greatly increased risk
so unless you want cut your life short, i suggest thinking again before stuffing that burger down your throat

It does matter how big you are because it affects your health. If you are overweight you are more likely to have heart disease and diabetes. I am a size 0 because I work out and eat healthy...maybe you should try it.
