There are lots of books at craft shops, book stores and libraries that outline quilting projects. A wall-hanging is a particularly popular project, so there is no shortage of help. The instruction books usually include patterns, diagrams and photographs which are very useful.
A quilted wall hanging is made in stages. First, the quilt-top is pieced together using many different colours of fabric. There are tons of quilt patterns available to help you with this, or you could even make you own. Quilt patterns are even available on the Internet! Then you choose a piece of fabric for your quilt backing. You sandwich together the quilt top and the backing, with a sheet of cotton batting in between. After attaching the three layers, you can sew decorative stitches into the top of the quilt if you choose. This will cause the cotton inside to puff up, giving the quilt a soft "puffy" appearance.
