What Does Discontinuous Mean?

    Discontinuous means "not continuous" or with breaks or interruptions.  Periods of intermission at every stage of an activity leads to discontinuous movement. The word is an antonym of continuous and an adjective form of the word "discontinuous."

    An even, flat landscape can be discontinuous, if the terrain is interrupted by uneven objects like rocks, stones or even slightly elevated plain. If there is a break in a sequence or a chain, then that particular order become discontinuous.  In the world of mathematics, it relates to a line or a curve having more than one discontinuity or breaks. Here is an example of the word "discontinuous" in a sentence:

    The plot of the movie was discontinuous, with numerous songs and mindless action thrown in for no rhyme or reason.
