The statue on top of the dome was placed in the year 1863 and is known to be the "Statue of Freedom". It is a gold-covered bronze figure of free Man, initially known as "Hope." The weight of the statue is over 230 kg and 3.3 meter tall. This stature of Man represents independence and liberty.
