Wales offers a great variety of water sports that one can pursue. These are Sailing, Canoeing, Surfing, Motor boating, and Skiing. Wales also has a number of clubs throughout the country offering sailing on lakes and the sea.  You could find such a club close by from where you live. Yearly costs for joining such a club can be as low as £50. There are no waiting lists in most of these clubs.
One such club is Cardigan Bay Watersports club which is located at the New Quay beach and has recognition from both RYA and AALA . Various types of activities such as dinghy sailing, power boating, windsurfing and kayaking can be chosen. Short sessions and courses are also available for all such activities.
Another such club is The Anglesey Outdoor Centre located on Holy Island Anglesey. There is a harbour at Holyhead that has excellent opportunity for sailing and powerboat type activities. Rainbow Sailing School in Swansea have qualified instructors for sailing and powerboat qualification courses.

There is a Pro Adventure Club in Llangollen,North Wales, (website is ProAdventure.co.uk), home of the National Eisteddfodd, which support all sort of water sports and cave climbing.  About 50 miles away in Bala there is a huge lake where you can hire all sorts of water sports activities and this is hugely popular as well.
