    Can A Cat Bite To The Bone On The Thumb Cause Some Form Of Arthritis? If So, Can It Be Cured?

    I'm a 65 years old male, six weeks ago a cat bit me on my thumb above the second joint up, urgent care gave me a tetnus shot. Next day my hand swelled up and I went to ER and was admitted and they put me on augmentin IV for 2 days and swelling went down. Gave a prescription of same for which I took as directed. Now I cannot make a fist and have pain in wrist , all finger joints on that hand, shoulder, knees. Can it be cured, what kind of DR should I see. Raleigh, NC

    There are more than 60 species of bacteria in the cats and dogs mouth. These bacteria can cause infections when bite to human. Pasteurella multocida is a gram negative bacteria present in cats and dogs mouth and can be transferred to human on bite. These bacteria can cause septic arthritis, osteomyelitis and abscess. So, you might be having septic arthritis. You can visit a doctor for infectious diseases.
