When Should I Fertilize Clematis?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The ideal conditions for growing clematis is by putting it in partial shade, but in some zones they can take direct sunlight. The ideal time to fertilise clematis would be in the spring every year. Fertilise your clematis by dispersing an all purpose fertiliser surrounding the base of the vine, and after the initial year, put fertiliser after every ten days when the plant is in full bloom. Propagate with the help of stem cuttings obtained in the beginning of summer and grounded in a mixture of peat moss and sand.

One need not touch the vines ever; they only need to be pruned on occasions. Clematises can also be grounded in vermiculite or moist sand. However, vines which bloom in the spring on the growing of the preceding year should not be pruned.
