Perhaps "respect" is not really actually the most appropriate word, although it may be the one I might tend to use, but I believe that opposite opinions and views need "space to be," even if you think they are not good ones.

No.  Opinions, beliefs- they don't inherently deserve respect.  The right of a person to HOLD them does.  I respect someone's right to have the opinion of their choice, or believe whatever they want.  That belief does not somehow earn respect just because someone holds it.
