It makes no sense to me. I don't understand why the COLA for seniors is ONLY based on one cost of living, gas. Since I retired, my expenditure on gasoline has dropped dramatically because I drive less while the cost of everything else has risen.

Because so many people have misused it. Same thing here in Canada. You have to jump through all the hoops to prove that you really need it and you really deserve it. Makes it hard for those who really need it to get it.

It's always easier to give money to the government, than to get it.

And since Congress doesn't use the Social Security system - they really have no motivation to make it more "user friendly".
