Why do people within a same religion with different sects fight with each other? (Catholics and Protestant, Shia and Sunni)

Originally the Catholics and protestants fought because the Catholic Church owned and controlled pretty much EVERYTHING and the 'protestants' were the protestors, those who rebelled against Catholic power and control and believed many catholic beliefs were wrong.   They were the Rebellion and the Catholic Church was the Empire.  We continue today to 'fight'  over ideology as … Read more

Catholics and Protestants don't fight any more.  There is more Sunni persecution of Shiites than the other way around.  There are other sects of Islam and they are persecuted as well, especially in Iran.  Most of the conflict in the Middle East is a war between the sects of Islam.
