On an episode of "electronic connection" the guy advertised the fix me stick. Does that really see way more files than other av programs such as my avg free and trend micro and security essentials?

Maybe you should read this article. The Fix Me Stick isn't a stand alone anti-virus ! I would think quite a bit before buying it. You'll still need an anti-virus program and a malware remover.
