They actually don't go anywhere. Through a process called "ossification", the extra tough cartilage membranes (resembling soft bones) that babies are born with, eventually fuse with the surrounding bones around them and become the larger adult bones.

A hot bath with a good book.

If all else fails I have a prescription for a muscle relaxer that puts me to sleep so I can wake up refreshed. (The only time I actually use these is after dealing with my mother-in-law for an extended period of time.)
