I suppose anyone can believe anything they want. But on a technical note, most Satanists do not believe in Satan as anything more then a symbol and not a being of any sort. Most are actually secular humanists/atheists

Why do people prefer to believe in god rather than be satanists? Religion is open to individual interpretations. It is not for us to question someone else's personal beliefs.
