I would be concerned about safe egress in case of fire or other emergencies.  I would not lock my children in.  Their room could be their tomb.

Umm.....children are not dogs. Children should never be locked in a room like that, not only is it morally and ethically wrong in my opinion...it's also dangerous. If you feel the need to lock your child in a room for ANY reason, it makes me question your parenting abilities.
