In my whole life, I don't think I've ever gone more than 2 months without a dog in my family.

Are we talking about loss and grieving here or just "I have to be gone for awhile and leave my pet in care of someone else for awhile"?

For the grievance part it's the same for loss of everything and anything.  Denial, Anger, Depression, Bargaining and Acceptance.  Eventually we all gain acceptance and lurk in remembrance.
